About the Role

Police Officers in La Plata are responsible for:

• Building positive community relationships
• Patrolling assigned areas to prevent and detect crime
• Responding to calls for service and emergency situations
• Conducting investigations and enforcing laws
• Using sound judgment in rapidly evolving situations
• Collaborating with fellow officers, Town departments, and residents

Salary & Pay Structure

Officer (Non-Certified): $64,030 annually ($30.78/hour)

Certified Officer: $68,860 annually ($33.10/hour)

Position is hourly, non-exempt

Hiring Bonuses

$2,500 sign-on bonus for newly hired non-certified officers

$3,500 sign-on bonus for certified officers

Qualifications

General qualifications for Police Officer candidates include:

• U.S. citizenship
• Minimum age of 21 at the time of certification
• High school diploma or GED (higher degree preferred)
• Ability to meet Maryland physical, mental, and background standards
