Crisis Preparedness Program Director

Location: Tampa, FL 33621

A day in this role

As the sun rises over Tampa Bay, you review the latest situational reports and readiness dashboards. By mid-morning, you’re walking a partner agency through an upcoming drill. After lunch, you refine a hazard-specific annex based on a fresh vulnerability analysis. Later, you debrief an exercise, capturing lessons that will strengthen our plans for the community and our facility. This is the rhythm of leading a resilient emergency management program—strategic, proactive, and people-centered.

What you’ll lead

• Creation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of comprehensive emergency management plans and procedures.
• Design and delivery of trainings, tabletop exercises, and full-scale drills with internal teams and community partners.
• Systematic risk assessments and vulnerability analyses to surface and prioritize potential threats.
• Primary liaison responsibilities with emergency response agencies and key stakeholders.
• Ongoing monitoring and evaluation of response activities, with data-driven recommendations for enhancement.
• Ownership of the emergency management budget to ensure resources are allocated effectively.
• Active awareness of local, state, and federal emergency management regulations and guidance.
• Facilitation of post-incident reviews to capture lessons learned and embed improvements.

Your background

• Bachelor's degree in Emergency Management, Public Safety, or a closely related discipline.
• 5+ years of experience in emergency management or a comparable field.
• Demonstrated command of emergency management principles, practices, and compliance requirements.
• Outstanding communicator and collaborator with a track record of cross-functional teamwork.
• Proven leadership in high-pressure, crisis contexts.
• Preferred certifications: CEM, TEM, or equivalent.
• Calm, decisive decision-making under pressure.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and emergency management software.
